Hampton Cove sits east through the mountain from Huntsville, out in the flat river valley, and it is one of the cleanest markets we work in. The housing is largely newer and substantial, laid out around the golf course and the ridges that ring the valley, with wide frontages, straight fascia and sound gutter. The mountain behind it means the light drops early in December and the displays get looked at for longer each evening than they do in town.

Permanent lighting is the strongest fit here. The fascia takes a track without argument, the houses are big enough that the outline genuinely reads from the road, and the elevations are exactly the ones nobody should be re-hanging annually. Seasonal displays are busy too, and plenty of Hampton Cove customers move from one to the other after a season of ladder work.

Access and driving time, more than hardware. The rooflines are modern and straightforward, but the valley is spread out and reaching it means the tunnel or the long way round, so we group work and in-season service calls rather than crossing the mountain twice in a day. On the ridge-side lots the ground falls away behind the house, which puts the rear run further off the ground than the frontage suggests.

It gets dark here earlier than it does in town. Does that change anything?
It changes how long the thing is on. Hampton Cove sits in a bowl with ridgelines on three sides, so the light goes early through December and a display here is lit for more of the evening than one out in the open valley. Factor that in when you're deciding how much of the house to do. And set an actual schedule at handover, because the default won't suit you.
Our association wants the entrance and clubhouse done. How does that work when it isn't one homeowner paying?
As one scope and one quote. The wrinkle in Hampton Cove is that there usually isn't a single association: with roughly twenty planned neighborhoods inside one 2,800-acre community, you often have a sub-association and a master association with different say over different ground. Who owns what we're lighting gets settled before we measure. Nothing goes on the calendar until it's approved in writing, and a large scope gets phased across visits. If the work runs past buildings into drives and entrance features, that's closer to how Owens Cross Roads properties get planned.
JellyFish starts at $4,000 and Bosso starts at $3,000. Why would we pay the difference?
Because the money buys a control platform. Once either one is on the house, that's the app you're using and those are the parts you're buying if something needs replacing in eight years. On straight modern fascia like Madison and most of Hampton Cove, both systems fit, so the roof isn't deciding for you and the extra thousand comes down to preference. We'd like the back lit too, facing the valley. Worth doing?
Depends what's behind you. There are 28 lakes and ponds in here, and if you back onto one and you're out on the deck through the winter, that's a real reason. If you back onto another house, you're paying to light a fence line. The outline that earns its money is the one people see, and on most of these lots that's the front and the street-facing return.
Which way do you come, and does that matter in December?
Cecil Ashburn when it's moving, Governors Drive and the tunnel when it isn't. That road carries close to 20,000 cars a day. It changes service calls, not install day.
