You get newer subdivisions with straight fascia and seamless gutter alongside ranch houses from the 1980s and 1990s and the occasional older farm property, often on more open lots. The open ground is the thing worth noting: on an open lot, a roofline outline can be seen from a long way down the road.

That openness is a real argument for a clean permanent run. Nothing blocks the view of the house, so the outline does all the work and does it every night of the year. On the older ranches, where fascia is shallower and the run is short and reachable, a seasonal display is often the better value, and we will say so.

What a Meridianville install actually takes

We install commercial-grade product that is cut to fit your house. If anything goes dark, we service it through the season. When the holidays are over, we take it down and store it until next year. Does the wind up here actually pull lights down?
It doesn't pull down a clip that was right. It finds the ones that weren't. Open lots are more exposed to wind than sheltered, tree-lined streets, and a gusty December on top of a wet one is what works a marginal clip loose. Our house is an 80s brick ranch and there's barely any fascia. Is there anything to clip to?
Usually the gutter or the drip edge. Shallow or interrupted fascia is common on the older ranches along 231, and it's the first thing we check on the walkaround. Older stock near the square in Athens gets the same treatment for different reasons.
Christmas lights start at $500 and permanent starts at $3,000. When does permanent pay for itself?
Around six seasons at those numbers. Two things to hold alongside that. Six years is a long time to break even on a low brick ranch where a seasonal crew is in and out in an hour and nobody's hiring a lift, which is exactly the house where we'll tell you to keep paying the $500. And ask for warranty terms in writing at the consult, because the payback only holds if the system outlives the calculation. On a two-story where the install is the expensive part of every December, the math turns much faster.
We're building out here. Do you work with builders?
Yes, and north Madison County is where it comes up most. Meridianville grew by more than a third between the 2010 and 2020 censuses, and new subdivisions are still going up along this corridor. Installing a permanent run during construction beats retrofitting one: the trim is accessible, power gets planned into the build, and nobody's working around finished landscaping. There's nothing else lit on our road. Will it be too bright?
It's brighter than string lights and it dims. On a dark stretch of 231 the setting that looks right sits well below full output, because there's nothing competing with it. Set that on install day, with somebody standing down at the end of the drive.
