How Long Does Permanent Holiday Lighting Take to Install in Madison, AL?

Short Answer: Plan on about four weeks from your first call to lights on. The design consult and quote happen first. Your track is ordered the day you approve and arrives one to two weeks later. Install day lands two to three weeks after approval. So if you want permanent Christmas lights in Madison, AL lit by Thanksgiving, the consult needs to be on the calendar now.

Late October is when the questions change in Madison. Through September, people ask what permanent lighting costs and whether the track shows in daylight. Now the question is shorter: can you still get us up before the holidays?

Usually, yes. But how long it takes is only half the question. The other half is what happens between the day you pay a deposit and the day a crew shows up. That gap is where homeowners get stuck, so this post covers both.

The Timeline, Week by Week

When What happens
Week 1 First call and free design consult at your house (if desired).
Week 2 Quote approved, 30% down, order placed the same day
1-2 weeks after approval Color-matched track arrives
2-3 weeks after approval Install day

Here’s what each step looks like on a Madison house.

The consult. Someone from our team walks the property, measures the roofline and shows you where the run will sit. Most Madison homes went up after the 1990s, so the fascia is usually straight and easy for a track. The real planning on the newer streets is height. A two-story front with a gable over the entry puts the top line past ladder reach. Access gets settled at the consult, not on install day.

Approval and order. When you approve the quote, the order goes in that day. Your job doesn’t sit in a pile waiting for someone to get to it.

The track arrives. This is the longest stretch, and nobody can rush it. The channel is matched to your trim color so it reads as part of the house in daylight, and the system is built for your roofline. That’s why it isn’t sitting on a shelf ready to go.

Install day. Once the materials are in, you go on the schedule. As one of our install leads puts it, you allow two to three weeks for delivery, then about a week to get you on the schedule. “That’s literally it.”

Why Permanent Runs on a Different Clock Than Seasonal

If you’ve read our post on when to book Christmas light installation in Huntsville, you know the seasonal calendar is tight. There’s a window of about six weeks, installs go in booking order, and the good dates are mostly spoken for by October.

Permanent holiday lights in Huntsville and Madison don’t compete for those same slots the same way. A permanent system can go up outside the holiday season, weather permitting, which our FAQ also points out. What sets your timeline is the order and delivery, not a six-week window everyone else is fighting over.

So even when the seasonal calendar is full, late October isn’t too late for permanent. You just have to start the four weeks.

Working Backward From Thanksgiving and Christmas

Thanksgiving is November 26 this year.

  • Lit for Thanksgiving: Get the consult scheduled this week and approve the quote by the end of October. That puts install day in mid to late November.
  • Lit for Christmas: Approving by Thanksgiving week still puts you on track for mid-December.

Treat those as the outside edges, not targets. Winter is the wettest part of the year in the Tennessee Valley, and a rainy week costs install days. The earlier end of each window leaves room for weather.

One thing that runs on its own clock is your HOA. Plenty of newer Madison subdivisions have architectural review. If yours does, bring the rules to the consult so the design fits them from the start, and send your request the same week you approve. That way the HOA’s timeline and ours overlap instead of stacking up.

A Situation We’ve Seen: The Lights Arrived, the Install Date Didn’t

This didn’t happen in Madison, but it’s the reason we’re so specific about the four weeks.

A homeowner paid a deposit with another company, and the lights were shipped to their house. Then the homeowner was told the install wouldn’t happen for another two months. So the homeowner had paid, had the materials sitting at home, and had no crew in sight for the season the lights were bought for.

They ended up sending the supplies back and hiring us instead. We were glad to win that job. But nobody should have to make that call in the middle of the holidays.

We don’t do that. We don’t take a deposit and then leave you with boxes and no date. The order goes in at approval, the track comes to us, and install day follows on the timeline in the chart above.

Before You Pay a Deposit, Ask These Four Things

Our guide to hiring a Christmas light installer in Huntsville covers insurance, roof fixings and fixed quotes. Those all apply to permanent lighting too. Permanent adds a few questions of its own, because the materials are made for your house before anyone installs them.

  1. Where do the lights ship? To the installer, or to your house? If they land on your porch, you’re storing them, and the clock is on you.
  2. Who holds the materials until install day? You want the company that sold the system to be responsible for it until it’s on your roofline.
  3. When does the install actually get scheduled? At approval, when the materials arrive, or “we’ll be in touch”? Ask for the order date and the expected install window.
  4. Is that window in writing? A range of weeks is an honest answer. No answer at all is a warning sign.

A deposit itself isn’t a red flag. Paying for materials up front is normal for custom work. The Better Business Bureau suggests keeping it to about a third and getting start and completion dates in writing. The FTC’s guide to hiring a contractor is worth five minutes too. What matters is whether the deposit comes with a schedule.

What Keeps the Four Weeks on Track

Most of the timeline is on our side, but a few things on yours make a difference:

  • Book the consult quickly. The first week is the easiest place to lose time.
  • Decide on the system at the consult if you can. We install both JellyFish Lighting and Bosso Smart Lighting and bring both to the consult. We’ll tell you which one suits your fascia and gutter. The manufacturer’s overview of the JellyFish track is at jellyfishlighting.com.
  • Know where your Wi-Fi reaches. Permanent systems run on your home network. It helps to know whether the signal reaches the garage or wherever the controller will go. Our post on controlling a permanent lighting system explains how the app and schedules work.
  • Start the HOA request early, as covered above.

Is It Too Late for Permanent Christmas Lights in Madison, AL This Year?

Not yet. Late October is a good time to start, and early November still works for Christmas. It only gets tight after Thanksgiving, when every week you wait comes out of the time the lights would be up.

The timing also only matters once. After this season, there’s nothing to hang, take down or rebook. In December you pick a color on your phone, and warm white comes back in January. Our residential lighting page shows what’s included.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does permanent holiday lighting take to install in Madison, AL?

Plan on about four weeks from your first call. The consult and quote come first. The order goes in the day you approve, the color-matched track arrives one to two weeks later, and install day is usually two to three weeks after approval.

Can I still get permanent lights before Thanksgiving?

Often, yes, if you move now. With Thanksgiving on November 26, booking the consult this week and approving by the end of October gives you the best shot at a mid to late November install.

Is permanent lighting limited to the holiday install season?

No. Seasonal displays work within a short window from late October to early December. A permanent system can be installed outside that window, weather permitting, because it’s built for your house and stays up all year.

What should I ask before paying a deposit for permanent lights?

Ask where the lights ship, who holds them until install day, when the install gets scheduled, and whether that window is in writing. A deposit for materials is normal. A deposit with no install date attached is the thing to avoid.
