JellyFish vs Bosso Smart Lighting: Which Permanent Lighting Fits Your Huntsville Home?

New Age Lights • August 2026 • Huntsville, AL • 8 min read

Short answer: JellyFish and Bosso are both permanent, app-controlled roofline systems with 16 million colors, 50,000-hour lights and five-year parts warranties. Bosso adds a dedicated true-white diode, 256 presets, eight zones per controller and Alexa, Google, Siri and Control4 integration. JellyFish offers individually addressable pucks in a color-matched track, 100-plus presets with custom patterns, about 263 feet per controller and bumper-to-bumper coverage in year one. In Huntsville the choice is usually made by your fascia profile, your white-light preference and your smart-home setup, which is why we bring both to the consult.

Same problem, different hardware

We install exactly two permanent lighting systems in Huntsville, and we install both for a reason. JellyFish is the one most people have heard of and the track we lead with on modern rooflines. Bosso has its own fixture and control system, and we fit it to homes JellyFish does not suit. Neither is better outright. One of them fits your house better, and the site visit is how we find out which.

That matters more here than in most metros. A 2015 build in Providence and an 1830s cornice in Twickenham are not the same job in any respect, and an installer who only carries one system will tell you that one fits. We carry both, so we can tell you when it does not.

Side by side

Everything in this table comes from the two manufacturers' published specifications. Where a brand does not publish a figure, the cell says so.

What true white means on your fascia

This is the difference most homeowners notice first, and the one worth seeing in person. Both systems produce white. Bosso's published spec includes a dedicated white diode in every light alongside the red, green and blue, so its everyday warm white is made by a white emitter rather than by mixing colors. JellyFish's pucks produce a full-bright white that draws under one watt per light.

Why it matters locally: most Huntsville customers run warm white as everyday trim far more nights than they run color. If the white is what you will look at 300 nights a year, hold both against your actual fascia at dusk. On the painted wood trim of an Old Town Victorian or a cream fascia in Hampton Cove, the two whites read differently, and one of them will suit your house. We bring samples to the consult so you are not choosing from a phone screen.

When JellyFish is usually the right call

JellyFish is a track fixed under the roofline, so the roofline matters more than the address. It goes in most cleanly where the fascia is straight and continuous and the gutters are sound, which describes almost everything built here this century.

  • Modern subdivision housing. Providence, Hampton Cove, most of Madison, Clift Farm, and the newer growth north through Harvest and Meridianville. On these houses the track sits in the trim line and you would not know it was there in daylight.
  • Longer runs. One controller covers about 263 feet and a system can grow to 2,400 feet, which suits full perimeters on large lots and the common-area work we do for associations.
  • Custom patterns. If you want to build your own chase, fade or two-tone pattern for a Saturday in autumn rather than pick from a list, the individually addressable pucks and custom-pattern tools are the draw.
  • Year-one coverage. Bumper-to-bumper parts, labor and service for the first year is a meaningful difference if you want the first twelve months to be entirely someone else's problem.

When Bosso is usually the right call

Bosso solves the same problem with different hardware, and the difference shows up on the roofline itself: the fascia profile, the drip edge, the gutter type, and whether there is genuinely room to seat a channel out of sight.

  • Rooflines that do not seat the other track cleanly. Shallow or interrupted fascia on a 1970s brick ranch in Meridianville, piecemeal gutter on an older Athens house near the square, or the cornice detail on a Five Points bungalow. Where a daylight-visible fixture is the wrong answer, the system that seats most discreetly is not always the first one you would reach for.
  • Smart-home households. If the house already runs on Alexa, Google Assistant, Siri or a Control4 installation, Bosso's integration means the roofline joins the rest of the system. Its Cat Bot assistant takes plain commands like "make my lights red" or "set a Christmas theme," typed or spoken.
  • A preference for the dedicated white. Some people see the ARGBW white and stop comparing.
  • Many small zones. Eight zones per controller lets you treat the porch, the entry gable and the garage as separate areas from one box, which suits busy, multi-gable elevations in Harvest and Clift Farm.

Key differences between Bosso and JellyFish

  1. White light. Bosso uses a dedicated white diode; JellyFish produces a full-bright white from its RGB pucks. See both before deciding.
  2. Voice and smart home. Bosso integrates with Alexa, Google Assistant, Siri and Control4 and adds music sync. JellyFish runs from its own cloud app with scenes and schedules you can control from anywhere.
  3. Warranty labor. Both are five years on parts. JellyFish is bumper-to-bumper for year one; Bosso covers labor for one year. Either way, in Huntsville you call us, not a manufacturer's support line.
  4. Fit. The fascia decides. On straight modern fascia both seat well and the choice is preference. On older or irregular edges one of them usually seats better, and that one is the recommendation.

Neither system lights your trees, wreaths or landscape. Both are roofline systems. If most of your December display is in the yard, read our honest five-year comparison of permanent and seasonal lighting before you commit to either.

Warranty, service and who answers the phone

A permanent system is fixed to your building and expected to run for fifteen years or more, so the question is not only what the warranty says but who honors it. We are an authorized dealer for JellyFish Lighting and a dealer for Bosso Smart Lighting, and we install and service every system we sell. If a zone misbehaves in year four, the person who fitted it is the person who comes back.

Our office at 1305 Fletcher St NW is close in, so most of the metro is a short drive, and we group Owens Cross Roads and Athens work so a service visit is a planned trip rather than an improvised one.

How the site visit decides

We measure the roofline and look closely at the edge we would be fixing to. Fascia depth, drip edge profile, gutter type, and how the roof turns at each corner all affect which fixture sits flush and stays invisible in daylight. We check where the controller and power can sensibly live, and whether the Wi-Fi reaches the garage if Bosso is in the running.

Then we put the two systems next to each other for your specific house and explain the real difference, with samples against your trim. You get a fixed quote, or two if you want to compare, and nothing is ordered until you say yes. If the better fit is also the cheaper one, you hear that too. Pricing for both is broken down in what permanent outdoor lighting costs in Huntsville, and how a track attaches to your fascia is covered in will permanent lighting damage my roof.

Frequently asked questions

What are the key differences between Bosso and JellyFish?

Both are permanent, track-mounted, app-controlled roofline systems with 16 million colors and five-year parts warranties. Bosso's light carries a dedicated white diode alongside RGB, ships 256 default presets, runs up to 8 zones per controller and 4 controllers per account, and integrates with Alexa, Google Assistant, Siri and Control4. JellyFish uses individually addressable pucks in a color-matched track, ships 100-plus presets with custom patterns and zones, powers about 263 feet per controller with systems up to 2,400 feet, and covers parts, labor and service bumper-to-bumper in year one.

Is Bosso lighting legit?

Yes. Bosso Smart Lighting is an established manufacturer with dealers across the country, a UL-rated waterproof controller, a five-year parts and one-year labor warranty, and a 50,000-hour rating on the lights. New Age Lights is a Bosso dealer in Huntsville and we install and service the systems we sell.

Is JellyFish Lighting a good company?

JellyFish Lighting has been installing permanent roofline lighting since 2016 and its earliest systems are still running. It publishes its pricing, warrants parts for five years with year one covered bumper-to-bumper, and sells only through authorized dealers, which is what New Age Lights is in Huntsville.

Which is cheaper, JellyFish or Bosso?

On the same roofline they usually land in a similar range. JellyFish publishes $25 to $35 per foot installed and typical homes of $3,000 to $6,000; Bosso publishes an average spend of about $5,000. The quote is driven by footage, height, corners and controllers, not by the brand. When one is cheaper for your house, we tell you.

Which system works with Alexa or Google Home?

Bosso's current app integrates with Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, Siri and Control4, and includes a Cat Bot assistant that takes typed or spoken commands and a music mode that syncs the lights through your phone microphone. JellyFish runs from its own cloud app with scenes, schedules and zones controllable from anywhere. If your house already runs on a voice ecosystem, that can be the deciding factor.

How long do JellyFish and Bosso lights last?

Both are rated around 50,000 hours. JellyFish translates that to roughly 15 to 20 years of evening use; Bosso quotes 25 to 30 years at about five hours a night. The difference is the assumption about hours per night, not the hardware rating.
